BSADA is Bermuda’s National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO). Its responsibility is to ensure that Bermuda’s sports bodies and athletes comply with the World Anti-Doping Code and local anti-doping policies, fostering a clean, fair, and drug-free sporting environment across the island.

All national and domestic athletes competing in Bermuda—or representing Bermuda internationally—are subject to testing, regardless of their sport, skill level, or testing pool placement.

Under the WADA Code, athletes are strictly responsible for any substance found in their body. Claiming lack of intent, ignorance, or accidental ingestion of a banned substance (e.g., via contaminated supplements) is not considered a valid defense against an anti-doping rule violation.

Refusing or failing to submit to sample collection without compelling justification constitutes an anti-doping rule violation. It carries the same penalties as a positive test result, which can range from a formal reprimand to a multi-year or lifetime ban from sports

Alcohol is prohibited in-competition for specific sports governed by their respective international federations (such as archery, automobile, and powerboating). Athletes should always check their sport's specific anti-doping regulations.

Athletes can check their medications using the Global DRO (Drug Reference Online) search tool. This tool provides step-by-step guidance on whether a medication or ingredient is permitted, restricted, or prohibited.

If an athlete has a legitimate medical condition requiring a medication or method on the WADA Prohibited List, they must apply for a TUE: 1. Obtain a TUE Application Form from BSADA. 2. Have a licensed physician complete the form with comprehensive medical documentation justifying the treatment. 3. Submit the completed application to BSADA at least 30 days before competing in an event.
